The Horadric Cube is the central crafting system introduced in the Lord of Hatred expansion. It replaces the Occultist as the primary method of gear modification for endgame players — and does it significantly better. In Season 14 it also becomes the home of Mythic Unique crafting. Unlock it after the LoH campaign; learn it before you hit Torment.
The Horadric Cube unlocks after completing the Lord of Hatred campaign in the Skovos Isles region. Once unlocked, it is available as a fixed station in Temis, the expansion's endgame hub. It is a permanent expansion feature — not a seasonal mechanic — and will remain available through all future seasons.
The Horadric Cube operates on a recipe system. You place an item in the Cube, add the required materials, select a recipe, and the Cube transforms the item. Each function serves a different purpose in your progression.
The biggest addition to the Cube in Season 14: Season of Death Awakening is the Upgrade to Mythic function. Mythic is no longer a separate rarity — it is a quality any Unique can take on, and the Cube is the main way to craft one. A crafted Mythic always rolls Ancestral, gains a 30% boost to its Unique Power, and has every other affix at its maximum value.
Pandemonium Fragments are the upgrade currency. You earn them from the seasonal Reputation Board, Resplendent Caches, and the new Corrupted Reaper lair boss — see the Lair Boss guide. You can alternatively craft Mythics at the Jeweler using Resplendent Sparks and runes. One rule to remember: you can only have one crafted Mythic equipped at a time, though there is no limit on Mythics you find as drops.
Once you have a Mythic, you can still refine it — Enchanting and Tempering both work on Mythic Uniques now, and any affix you add rolls at its maximum value. For guaranteed affixes and the full Enchanting picture, see the Enchanting & Affixes guide.
Tuning Prisms are the most important material in the Horadric Cube system. They reduce the randomness of crafting results by letting you specify a stat category — offensive, defensive, utility — before the recipe runs. Without a Tuning Prism the result is fully random within the eligible affix pool. With one, the Cube heavily biases toward your chosen category.
Tuning Prisms are not consumed if a recipe fails. They are however consumed on success, so use them only when you have a good base item worth committing to. Farming Tuning Prisms efficiently requires consistent Torment content — they are not a scarce material in late endgame but feel that way early on.
Every Cube recipe runs on Primordial Dust. There are six confirmed tiers, each rarer than the last. Raw Primordial Dust begins dropping from elite enemies at level 20 and is account-bound — it cannot be traded. Higher tiers require Torment-level content and drop from progressively harder activities.
You will always feel short on the tier you need. This is by design. Prioritise completing War Plans activities at higher difficulty to maximise dust income alongside other rewards.
Transfiguration is the most powerful and most permanent thing you can do with the Horadric Cube. It applies a randomly selected powerful modification to a fully prepared item — but once complete, the item is locked. You can no longer Enchant, Masterwork, or Temper it after Transfiguration. Gem swaps remain possible.
Transfiguration results are random but powerful — they add entirely new affixes or modify existing ones in ways no other crafting step can match. Plan this step as the absolute last action in your gear optimisation journey for each piece.
One of the most significant shifts the Cube introduced is that Common and Magic items are now genuinely useful. They serve as the cleanest crafting bases for adding affixes through the Cube — no existing rolls to work around, no affixes competing for slots. Experienced players are picking up white items specifically for Cube crafting, something that would have been absurd in previous seasons. Do not vendor or salvage every grey item automatically.
